[TRADUCCIÓN AL ESPAÑOL ABAJO]

The People’s Forum joins people’s movements and organizations around the world in commemoration of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.

In the midst of deepening and converging crises stemming from  the exploitive systems of capitalism, imperialism, patriarchy and white supremacy, working class women continue to bear the brunt of the suffering, oppression, and marginalization of this world in chaos. Consequently, working class women have had no option but to be in the lead of fierce resistance to oppression and exploitation in all fronts of struggle.

Berta Cáceres was a revolutionary Indigenous feminist leader from the northwest of Honduras, who helped found the Civic Council of Popular and Indigenous Organizations of Honduras (COPINH). Cáceres broke down barriers of racism, sexism and colonialism in her bold and revolutionary work and brought many along with her. On March 2, 2016, she was brutally assassinated by the weapons of the ruling elite, supported by the US imperialist agenda. Today, there are many Bertas who continue to take her legacy forward.

In order to learn more about Cáceres and the anti-patriarchal struggle, we will hear the words of Cáceres herself and be joined by Bertha Zúniga, general coordinator of COPINH, and daughter of Berta Cáceres, who will discuss the lessons of Berta and the work that COPINH is taking on today.

This discussion will be in Spanish.  Please register below for the zoom link, where you can access interpretation.
